Best AI tools for churches in 2026
What each one is for, what it costs, and what it should leave to a person. Prices read from each company’s own website on November 3, 2026.
The short answer. The right AI tool depends on the job. For answering the church phone, look at ChurchWiseAI Phone ($79 a month), ChurchCalls.ai ($19.99 a month for 100 minutes), Dialzara (from $29 a month for 60 minutes) or Goodcall (from $79 a month). For a church website with a chat assistant, ChurchWiseAI Website is $29 a month. For writing and planning, a general assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude works, with a policy around what staff may paste into it. Whatever you pick, the test is the same: what does it do when a caller needs a human?
By Pastor John Moelker, founder of ChurchWiseAI. If a number below has changed, tell me and I will fix it.
A pastor’s office on a Monday
A pastor I know sits down on Monday morning with a coffee that has already gone cold. The voicemail light is blinking. Four messages. One is a robocall. One is a wedding inquiry from Friday afternoon. One is a woman who says only, “I wanted to talk to somebody,” and leaves no number.
He has been told for a year that AI could fix this. He has also been told it could replace him, and he knows that is not true. So he opens a laptop and types what you probably typed: compare AI for churches. What comes back is a wall of lists. Every list is written by a company, and every company ranks itself first.
I am a company too. I built ChurchWiseAI, and I am about to tell you where it fits and where it does not. You can judge whether I earn the trust.
First, decide the job
Most “AI for churches” lists mix three different jobs. They are not interchangeable.
- Answering the phone. Someone calls the church office and no person picks up.
- Answering the website. Someone is on your site at 11 on a Saturday night and wants service times.
- Writing and planning. Someone on staff needs a newsletter draft, a policy, or a first pass at a letter.
An answering tool will not write your newsletter. A writing tool will not pick up your phone. Choose the job first.

How to read the table. ChurchCalls.ai is the cheapest church phone option I found, and for a church that only needs the phone answered in a limited way, that may be exactly right. I would call both of our numbers and listen. Dialzara and Goodcall are built for any small business, so a church should ask them how they handle a prayer request and how they handle a caller in distress. Mine is not the cheapest. It is the one that comes with a chat assistant and, on Complete, the church website.
Chat assistants and websites
A chat assistant on your site answers the questions your bulletin cannot: where do I park, what time is the second service, is there a nursery. ChurchWiseAI Website is $29 a month and includes the hosted church website with the chat assistant built in. Complete is $99 a month and adds Phone. Annual billing is two months free on each plan.
If you already have a website you love, ask the vendor of any chat tool one question: does it answer only from facts I give it, or does it make things up when it is unsure? Ours says “I don’t know” and takes a name and number. That is on purpose.
General assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini)
These are the right tool for drafting a newsletter, summarising a long email, or brainstorming a series title. They do not know your church. They do not answer your phone. They do not notify your prayer team. If staff are using them, write a short policy first. There is a free church AI policy template you can copy and adopt.
What every church should ask any vendor
Copy these into an email. A good vendor answers in plain words.
- What happens when a caller is in crisis? Does it point to 911 or 988 and to a person at the church?
- Does it ever claim to be a person?
- Where do prayer requests go, who can read them, and how long are they kept?
- If it does not know an answer, does it say so?
- Can I read every call afterward?
- What does it cost in a month with 20 percent more calls than I expect?
What we will not do
ChurchWiseAI is not a counsellor, a pastor, or a priest. It does not keep secrets. If someone shares something serious, the church team is told. We built it as a bridge to the people God has already put in your church, not a replacement for them.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI for a small church?
Start with the job that costs you the most today. For many small churches that is the phone. A $19.99 or $29 tool may be enough; a church that wants phone, chat and website under one login may prefer ChurchWiseAI Complete at $99 a month. Test any of them with a free trial or demo before paying.
How much does church AI cost?
From the vendors compared here: $19.99 to $99 a month for phone answering, and $29 a month for a website with a chat assistant at ChurchWiseAI. Check each vendor for limits on minutes or customers.
Can AI replace a church secretary?
No. It can answer the first call and capture the details. It cannot visit a hospital room or sit with a grieving family. Use it so your secretary spends her morning on people.
Is ChatGPT enough for a church?
For drafting, often yes. For answering your phone or your website with your own service times and staff names, no, because it does not know your church unless someone loads that information every time.
Is ChurchWiseAI the cheapest option?
No. ChurchCalls.ai publishes a lower monthly price. ChurchWiseAI includes the chat assistant and offers the website in the same plan.
Does it work with my denomination?
ChurchWiseAI answers from the beliefs and facts your church enters, across 17 theological traditions.
